The Trustees of the Central Pennsylvania Teamsters Health and Welfare Fund are committed to providing access to high-quality prescription drug benefits while continuing to manage the overall cost of the pharmacy program for all participants.
Effective January 1, 2027, all GLP-1 medications must be filled exclusively through the Fund’s 340B pharmacy, accessed through Alliance Community Healthcare. This requirement applies to all covered GLP-1 medications, which are currently approved by the FDA to treat Type 2 Diabetes and for weight loss. Some examples are Mounjaro, Ozempic, Rybelsus, Trulicity, Wegovy & Zepbound.
If you are using a GLP-1 or plan to do so and do not enroll in Alliance Community Healthcare by January 1, 2027, you will be responsible for the full cost of your GLP-1 medications. This is because on and after January 1, 2027, the Fund will not provide benefits for GLP-1 prescriptions filled at any pharmacy other than the 340B contracted pharmacy. To avoid any disruption in therapy, participants currently using a GLP-1 medication must follow the steps outlined below:
- As soon as possible, and no later than 1/1/2027, you must contact the Medical Concierge with Alliance Community Healthcare at 551-229-7617 to create a member profile and enroll in the program.
- Alliance Community Healthcare will require your medical records from the doctor who initially prescribed your GLP-1 to be faxed over to Alliance Community Healthcare at 201-451-8300.
- Once Alliance Community Healthcare receives your medical records, a telemedicine visit will be scheduled with a physician from Alliance Community Healthcare; they will review your information and if appropriate, write a new prescription for your GLP-1 medication.
- Alliance Community Healthcare will send the new prescription to the Fund’s 340B pharmacy to be filled.
- There will be $0 copayments for both your GLP-1 medication and the telemedicine visit with Alliance Community Healthcare.
- The 340B pharmacy will ship the medication directly to your home.
Why Is this Change Occurring?
GLP-1 medications continue to represent one of the fastest-growing areas of pharmacy costs for the Fund. This change is being made to help contain pharmacy costs, improve oversight of high-cost medications, and support the long-term sustainability of the prescription drug benefit for all covered participants and their families.
